Privacy Policy
What kenyonminnesota.com collects, what it does not, and your rights. Effective September 17, 2026.
In plain words
- We do not sell personal information, run advertising, set tracking cookies or profile you.
- Our server keeps ordinary access logs, and a small beacon counts page views (page, referrer, screen size, language, and the network address your browser presents). That is how we know how many people read the site.
- If you use a form, we keep what you typed and any files you attached, and we send it to the city department named on the form and to our own mailbox. Drafts save in your own browser, not on our server.
- The work depicts people, property and public life using information that is already public under Minnesota law. That material comes from government records, not from tracking you.
- You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, and we will answer within 45 days.
1. Who is responsible
This policy explains what kenyonminnesota.com (the “Site” or the “Work”) collects from its visitors, why, and what we do with it. The Site is a work of art about Kenyon, Minnesota, created and published by its private authors (“we,” “us,” “our”), who are the controller of the personal data described here. It is not the City of Kenyon, and the City’s own privacy practices apply to anything you send the City directly. Questions and requests: team@kenyonminnesota.com.
2. What we collect, and why
Server logs. Like nearly every website, our web server records each request: the network (IP) address, the page or file requested, the date and time, the referring page if your browser sends one, and the browser and device description your browser sends (the user agent). We use these logs to keep the Site running, to detect abuse, and to count readership. They are kept on our server for a rolling period of up to twelve months and then deleted.
Readership beacon. When a page loads on kenyonminnesota.com, a short script sends one request to our server carrying the page address, the referring page, your screen size, your browser’s language setting, and, as with any request, your IP address and user agent. We use this to count visits and to tell real readers from automated scanners. It sets no cookie, assigns no identifier that follows you across sites, does not read your browser’s storage, and is not shared with any advertising or analytics company. Visits from our own addresses and from known scanners are excluded from our counts.
Forms and tools. When you use a form on the Site, we receive what you enter, any files you attach, your typed signature if the form asks for one, the time of submission, and your IP address and user agent. We store the submission on our server, generate the completed document, send it to the city department named on the form and to our own team mailbox, and send you a copy if you gave an email address. Drafts are saved in your own browser’s local storage while you work and are cleared when you submit or choose “Start over”; they never reach our server until you submit. Submissions are kept for as long as needed to document what was sent and to whom, and in any case no longer than seven years, unless you ask us to delete them sooner and no record-keeping reason prevents it.
Email. If you write to us, we keep the correspondence for as long as it is useful to the matter it concerns. Our mail is hosted by a commercial email provider. Emails we send may contain links with a short tag that tells us which message a visit came from; we do not use tracking pixels or read receipts.
Corrections and listing details. If you send corrections, photographs or details for publication, we keep them, publish what we decide to publish under the Terms of Use, and record who sent them and when.
Public-record data about people. As a depiction of the town, the Work includes names and facts drawn from government records and public proceedings: property owners of record and their mailing city, assessed values and taxes, recorded sales, people who speak at, are appointed by or are named in city council meetings, officers listed in nonprofit filings, and business owners named in public sources. This information is public under the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act, Minn. Stat. ch. 13, or is otherwise publicly available, and we obtain it from the agencies and sources that publish it, not by tracking visitors. Section 6 describes how to correct it.
3. What we do not do
We do not sell, rent or trade personal information. We do not run advertising or advertising networks. We do not set cookies for tracking. We do not build profiles of visitors, make automated decisions about them, or engage in targeted advertising as those terms are used in Minn. Stat. ch. 325O. We do not collect precise geolocation, biometric data or data revealing sensitive characteristics, and we do not knowingly collect any personal information from children under 13 (the Site is not directed to children, and we honor the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, 15 U.S.C. § 6501 et seq.). We do not require an account.
4. Third parties who process data for us
We use a small number of service providers to run the Site, each bound by its own published terms and acting only on our instructions: a hosting provider in the United States that serves the pages and keeps ordinary infrastructure logs; an email provider that hosts our mailboxes; and a web-font service from which your browser fetches typefaces, which necessarily sees the request and your network address. We describe providers by category rather than by name because naming them serves no reader; where the law requires it, we will identify them in response to a request under Section 6.
Links to maps, meeting videos, cityofkenyon.gov, county and state records and business websites lead to separate services. When you follow a link, that service’s policies apply.
We share personal information only with these providers, with the city department a form is addressed to, with the person it concerns when they ask for it, and when the law requires it, such as in response to a valid subpoena, court order or legal process, or to protect the safety of a person or the integrity of the Site. We may share aggregate statistics that identify no one.
5. Security and breach notice
The Site is served over HTTPS. Access to the server, the submission store and the mailbox is limited to the people who run the Site, and submissions are not published. No system is perfectly secure; if we learn of a breach of security affecting unencrypted personal information, we will notify affected Minnesota residents as required by Minn. Stat. § 325E.61 and other applicable law.
6. Your rights and how to use them
The Minnesota Consumer Data Privacy Act, Minn. Stat. ch. 325O, applies to businesses that process the personal data of at least 100,000 consumers a year, or that derive revenue from selling it. We are far below those thresholds and sell nothing, so the Act does not bind us. We extend its core rights anyway, to any visitor, wherever you live:
- Access: confirm whether we process personal data about you and receive a copy of it.
- Correction: have inaccurate personal data corrected.
- Deletion: have personal data we collected from you deleted, subject to the record-keeping and legal reasons described above.
- Portability: receive a copy of what you gave us in a usable format.
- Opt-out: of sale, targeted advertising and profiling, none of which we do.
- Third parties: the categories of third parties to which we have disclosed your personal data, as described in Section 4.
Send requests to team@kenyonminnesota.com with enough detail to find the data and to confirm you are the person concerned or their authorized agent. We respond within 45 days and may extend once by 45 days for complex requests, telling you why. If we decline a request we will explain the reason, and you may ask us to reconsider; if we still decline, you may complain to the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office.
Information drawn from public records is different from information collected from you. We correct errors in it under Section 3 of the Terms of Use, and we consider requests to remove it on the grounds stated there. Because the underlying record belongs to the government agency that holds it, a correction to the record itself must be made with that agency (for property records, the Goodhue County Assessor and Recorder; for council records, the City of Kenyon).
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control. We do not track visitors across other sites or sell data, so there is nothing for these signals to switch off. We treat every visitor as opted out.
Visitors outside the United States. The Site is published in and directed to Minnesota. If you visit from elsewhere, your data is processed in the United States under this policy; where the law of your country applies, our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in publishing and operating the Site, and, for forms, the performance of the task you asked us to perform.

8. Changes
We may revise this policy. The effective date at the bottom is the date of the current version; material changes will be noted on this page for at least thirty days. Continued use of the Site after a change is acceptance of it.
