The course on the northeast edge of town

Kenyon Country Club is a public nine-hole course with private memberships available, on rolling ground where Highway 56 leaves the north side of Kenyon. The club describes itself as relaxed, affordable and friendly, and the numbers bear it out: nine holes cost $15, eighteen cost $25, and Monday through Thursday eighteen holes with a cart run $35.

The course is forty-five minutes from the Twin Cities. The clubhouse is open 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. through the season, and the club rents its dining room, patio and deck for weddings, reunions and graduations.

The club is a member-owned 501(c)(7) social club. Its most recent return shows $219,136 in revenue against $224,841 in expenses, 7 employees, and a seven-person board led by Sheldon Lunde.

The clubhouse

The dining room seats fifty and more, with the course in view from the room, the patio and the deck. The club rents it for weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, reunions and graduations, and it can take a golf outing most days of the week.

The kitchen serves pizza, hand-scooped ice cream, homemade cookies and Special K bars rather than full meals, with coffee and cinnamon rolls on Sunday mornings; for events the club keeps a list of caterers it has worked with. The city council renews the club's on-sale liquor licence each spring.
