Mayor Kirchmann Stays Silent While His Wife Pleads For Empathy
We sent Mayor Kirchmann three emails and his only response was “Remove.”

We sent Mayor Don Kirchmann our findings three times this month, and his only and last reply, on October 28, was one word: “Remove.”
The Kenyon Leader’s Tim Zyla wrote that Mayor Kirchmann has deferred all questions to Lehner. We applaud the reporting and honest, hard work of Tim Zyla and Marco Rivero Luna.
Now, with tensions rising days before the election, his wife took to Facebook to plead on his behalf.
She told the town how hard this has been for him and what a great guy she knows he is. In her words:
“He comes home from council meetings frustrated and upset.”
On his silence, she writes:
“I’ve also read comments about Don not making statements to the Kenyon Leader. The truth is that he wants to make sure he has accurate information before speaking publicly. He also works a full-time job outside of being mayor. Being contacted unexpectedly in the middle of his workday and asked to respond to complicated issues on the spot isn’t always the best way to have a meaningful conversation or provide thoughtful answers. Scheduling a time to talk would allow him to be better prepared and give the questions the attention they deserve.
That doesn’t mean he isn’t willing to talk. He wants residents to come to him, ask questions, share concerns, and have an open conversation.”
He has had nearly two years to take charge and make his statements. This did not happen overnight.
She also says Randy Eggert retired, but what about Resolution 2026-34, which ended his employment under a separation agreement and which Kirchmann himself moved?
If this was a retirement, why did it take a separation agreement?
How hard has this been for Randy Eggert, whose 48 years with the City end December 9?
How hard was it for him to sit through a prepared statement read against him on October 29, ask to respond, and be told by Mayor Kirchmann that there would be no comments?
How hard has this been for Debbie Eggert, who wrote to the Kenyon Leader to speak out against cruelty?
What about the city and utility workers who keep Kenyon running, and who watched how a 48-year employee was treated?
What about the residents who pay for every bad decision at City Hall?
Who pays for a new substation that Compass roughly puts at $5 million to $6 million?
If the mayor cares this much about Kenyon, why is “Remove” all we have heard from him?
We find it absolutely abhorrent that Mayor Don Kirchmann has not set the record straight or attempted to take charge of the town he was elected to lead.
The city deserves better.
Mayor Kirchmann, Kenyon is still waiting to hear from you.
